Renjit (Ren) Mathew Iype was born in Kottayam, Kerala, India during the Gulf War. Soon afterwards his father returned to Kuwait to check up on what was to be his future home while Ren was raised by his Mother and Grandmother at his Grandma's house in India. He spent the first few years of his life chasing dragonflies in his grandmother's backyard unaware of the catastrophes affecting the world. That changed when he was three years old and the family shipped off to Kuwait where the turmoil of the world as a whole was more at the forefront. Still, Ren stayed a child mostly raised by television and stayed indoors those days. When he was 10 years old the Iypes moved to Vancouver, Canada where Ren was introduced to a plethora of new worlds via western television and he got sucked in, fast.
Being a latchkey kid, he'd skip school and watch television religiously. Canadian shows like Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Reboot, Freaky Stories, Big Wolf On Campus and Goosebumps (instilling in him a taste for horror and the unknown). Later along with American shows where he kept spotting his home province of B.C., through shows like The X-Files, Smallville, Supernatural, Fringe and Once Upon A Time. An odd proclivity without doubt, but he didn't really understand how fascinated he was with the world of television or writing and how large a role they both would play in his life, until much later.
After graduating from Fraser Valley Christian High, Ren studied Digital Animation at BCIT but found his passion was really for writing the story, not animating it. After working as a Video Editor, he realized that even within those mediums he was experimenting with different forms of storytelling. This led him to Toronto Film School's writing program and he is now focusing his storytelling into the screenwriting medium, with a particular interest in stories of diversity, youth and social change.
